How to Get Involved in SAR

How do I become a SAR member?

SAR offers several membership categories with specific requirements. Review the membership types and complete the appropriate online application.

How do I become a committee member?

SAR sends a call for volunteers each summer. Members are encouraged to apply and can review current committees on the SAR website.

How do I become a Fellow of the Society?

SAR issues a call for Fellow nominations each summer or fall. Self-nominations are permitted, and eligibility is governed by the SAR bylaws.

When are annual meeting abstracts submitted?

The call for abstracts is generally announced in late July. Deadlines are usually in September or October, with Power Science submissions typically due in early December.

How can I become an annual meeting workshop lecturer?

SAR invites workshop proposals in the spring, usually with submissions due in early summer. Members are encouraged to identify programming gaps and collaborate with DFP colleagues.

How can I find a co-presenter?

You may invite someone with shared interests or submit a workshop concept independently. SAR workshop coordinators may pair solo applicants with a complementary speaker.

How are plenary lecturers selected?

Plenary sessions are organized by the incoming SAR President-Elect with input from the Annual Meeting Council Educational Program Committee.

How can I find or become a mentor?

Participate in the RFS mentorship program and connect with potential mentors through SAR events and the annual meeting.

What opportunities exist for early-career radiologists?

Join the Early Career Committee, participate in a DFP or ETC, propose a workshop, submit an abstract, or volunteer for a committee.

How do I apply for SAR research grants?

SAR offers the Wylie J. Dodds Research Award, Morton A. Bosniak Research Award, and Howard S. Stern Research Grant. Applications generally require a proposal and budget.

How can I propose changes to SAR meetings or the Society?

Share feedback through course evaluations and direct communication with SAR leadership. Feedback is reviewed to improve future programs.

How do I become a leader in SAR?

Become a member, participate in meetings, network, volunteer for committees, pursue Fellowship, and express interest in leadership responsibilities.

How can I hear about volunteer opportunities?

Make sure SAR informational emails are reaching your inbox and add admin@abdominalradiology.org to your safe-sender list.

Build expertise in your area, review the current active panels, and contact panel chairs. You may also propose a new panel to address an unmet need.

One SAR Annual Awards

The One SAR Committee recognizes members whose work expands opportunity, professional growth, service, education, and research.

Ramchandani–Sadowski Award

Recognizes career-long efforts to promote advancement in education, service, research, and radiology. Nominations and self-nominations are open to active mid-career and senior SAR members.

One SAR Professional Development Award

Provides a travel stipend and the opportunity to shadow a senior SAR leader. Intended for active early-career members who can describe how the award will advance their professional development.
