SAR Recommendations for Abdominal Fellowship Recruitment
2022-23 Academic Year
We strongly endorse adherence to the SCARD guidelines for this recruitment season.
SCARD is pleased to announce the continuation of the fellowship embargo program that was initiated last year. Last year’s program was extremely successful in meeting its objectives of improving the fairness of the fellowship application process and providing our residents more time to experience all of Radiology sub-specialties before choosing their future career. In order to maintain flexibility, sub-specialties can either utilize the match or comply with the embargo dates. Based on last year’s experience and feedback from many of you, we made the following modifications to the program for this coming year.
Making all interviews virtual this year – this will level the playing field for those institutions that are not allowed to host in person interviews and residents who are not allowed to travel.
Setting August 1 as the first date to accept applications.
Moving the embargo date back to November 1 for all interviews and for offers of acceptances for ‘non-match” programs.
Mandating a 7 calendar day grace period between offers of positions and the need for the applicant to either accept or decline the offer for all non-match programs.
Eliminating the exception for international candidates
Defining the spouse exception as “an applicant whose spouse/domestic partner is also applying for any medical fellowship in the same year”.
Elements that remained the same are:
Maintaining the exception for internal and military candidates.
All interviews should be completed by March 31, 2021 to avoid conflicts with studying for the Core Exam.
We are asking all programs complete the pledge showing your commitment to adhere to the guidelines. We will be tracking all responses and creating a listing of those programs that sign the pledge on the SAR Fellowship Section of our website.
